Kaplanhof
The Kaplanhof urban district is located in the heart of Linz. In January 2021, it had 5,775 inhabitants living on 88 hectares of land. The Lower Danube promenade borders Kaplanhof to the north; the Industriezeile and a railway line border it to the east; Krankenhausstraße borders it to the south; and Gruberstraße borders it to the west. The Rathausviertel, Hafenviertel, Franckviertel, Neustadtviertel and Altstadtviertel are all close to the Kaplanhof.
Kaplanhof is home to a number of important structures and organizations, including:
- The largest hospital in Upper Austria, the Linz City General Hospital, offers a comprehensive range of medical services.
- The state’s largest teacher training center, the Upper Austrian Pedagogical University, offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in various educational specializations.
- The Federal Academy of Art Design Linz is a vocational school that trains students for professions in graphic design, photography, media design and fashion design.
- The largest social insurance organization in the region, covering around 1.2 million people, is the Upper Austrian Regional Health Insurance Fund.
- The private Evangelical Hospital of the Deaconesses is a center for breast surgery, obstetrics and gynecology.
- A former tobacco factory, Tabakfabrik is today an artistic and cultural center which hosts numerous events, exhibitions, workshops and startups.
- The state police headquarters, the Upper Austrian National Police Directorate, supervises the work of the state’s eighteen police districts.
Additionally, Kaplanhof is a fantastic place to enjoy green spaces and leisure activities like:
- Kaplanhofpark is a public park with a dog area, basketball court, skate park and playground.
- The riverside park known as Donaupark has a beach, marina, promenade and water ski lift.
- Many water sports are offered at Winterhafen, including sailing, rowing, canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding.
- The Danube cycle path, known as Donauradweg, connects Linz with various cities and nations.
