The village signs: Four traffic lights at the village gates are the most well-known feature of Fugging. The community was once called Fucking, as these billboards proudly proclaim. Particularly for visitors from Britain and the United States, the signs have become a popular location for picture taking. The obscene English translation of the moniker amuses these tourists. Up until they were changed out with theft-resistant ones in 2005, the signs were often stolen and defaced. To avoid the bad connotations and abuse they were facing, the locals decided in 2020 to rename their village Fugging. First erected on January 1, 2021, were the new signage.
