On the southern slopes of the Principality of Andorra, in the peaceful town of Auvinyà, Casa Auvinyà Winery is a shining example of the harmonic fusion of history, modernism, and respect for the surroundings. Nestled in the difficult terrain next to the La Rabassa forest, the winery, which is part of the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria, is remarkably elevated—1,200 meters. Under the care of the Tor family, Casa Auvinyà has skillfully transformed this challenging mountainous terrain into a vibrant vineyard refuge.
The story of Casa Auvinyà started in 2005 when the Tor family set out to produce outstanding wines reflecting the unique character of the Andorran Pyrenees. The basis for what would become an outstanding winery was established by the synthesis of Jordi Tor‘s deep-rooted connection with the land and the forward-looking aspirations of his children, Cristina and Esteve, together with daughter-in-law Elena Clemente. Starting with a painstakingly created research plan developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, the initiative focused on the cultivation of vines and the creation of outstanding red and white wines on the mountainous terrain of Andorra.
Casa Auvinyà‘s two hectares of vineyards are carefully laid over five separate plots. Based on grape variety, the vineyards are set on steep west-facing hills with gradients ranging from 40% to 60%. Rich in shale and slate, the soil’s ideal conditions for growing strong grape varieties are created by the severe mountain climate. A key component is the vineyard’s biodiversity since it fosters a symbiotic interaction between the vines and their surroundings. Selected for their ability to thrive in these demanding conditions, the cultivated varieties are Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Viognier, and Albariño.
Casa Auvinyà set out from the very start to produce wines that not only meet but exceed world standards of quality. To find grape varieties that would flourish in the unique soil and climate conditions found at a 1,200-meter elevation, extensive research was undertaken. The results of this study shaped the winery’s winemaking process by guiding low-intervention policies and allowing the grapes to naturally evolve from vine to bottle. This approach has produced wines reflecting the core of their Andorran roots, both real and creative.
With 5,000 vines now grown in Casa Auvinyà, yearly output of roughly 3,000 bottles is obtained. Among its three red wines and a distinctive white wine are some noteworthy creations. Red wines available include Fora Pista Pinot Noir 100%, Evolució Pinot 100%, and Evolució Syrah 100%. By contrast, the white wine, Imagine, offers a polished mix of Viognier (50%), Pinot Gris (45%), and Albariño (5%). Renowned for their unique profiles and bold character, the wines, bearing the prestigious VINS D’ANDORRA seal of control and guarantee from the Andorran Government, are…

In prestigious events including the International Wine Challenge in London, BACCHUS in Madrid, Mondial des Pinots in Switzerland, Mondial des Vins Extrêmes in Italy, and Syrah du Monde in France, they have won more than a dozen prestigious medals.
