Located in the picturesque Ordino Arcalís in Andorra, the Canals de Creussans offer an exciting chance for experienced skiers and adventure seekers. Starting at the Arcalís ski resort’s car park near the Hortell building, this path provides a challenging but rewarding journey. Having an Ordino Arcalís ski pass greatly makes access to the descent easier, so facilitating effective travel to the higher parts of the area.
The journey starts with a climb on the La Bassera ski lift, then descends the Coma d’Arcalís. The Creussans chairlift then moves eager adventurers closer to their final destination. After landing, a short climb along the left-hand ridge to the southwest ends at Creussans peak. A few more meters of elevation take skiers to the threshold of the first gully beyond the top. Nestled between Creussans and the nearby Cabanyó peak, this access point, roughly 2,690 meters above ground level, provides a thrilling gateway for the descent.
Characterized by a large rock that bisects the path at its midpoint, the climb from the first gully offers an interesting challenge. One may avoid this rock on the right under good snow conditions; nevertheless, occasionally a strong three-meter leap is required to advance. For those with significant skiing experience, the rest of the gully offers an exciting but manageable descent with a consistent gradient ranging from 40° to 45° across a 200-meter span.
The second gully provides a more subdued option for those seeking a somewhat less demanding choice. This trajectory spans 150 meters and is marked by a constant gradient of 45° and free of obstacles, so enabling more seamless navigational transitions. The two descents finally meet at the Coma d’Arcalís, the starting point for the La Bassera and Creussans chairlifts.
The Andorran mountains’ great beauty offers an engaging backdrop for the trip. An unforgettable alpine experience is created by the energizing environment, unspoiled snow, and peace of the higher terrain. Located at exact coordinates of 42°37’55.28″N and 1°29’59.89″E, the parking lot provides an easy access to this amazing scene.
For those ready to explore Andorra’s heights and depths, the Canals de Creussans route perfectly captures the seductive character of its mountainous terrain and offers the ideal mix of challenge and amazing beauty.
