Saranda Travel Guide

Saranda, the gateway to southern Albania, is a small town of around 33,000 people located on a lovely horseshoe harbor between the Ionian Sea and the surrounding mountains. The origin of the term Saranda is an early Christian monastery devoted to Agioi Saranta (Forty Saints). Saranda was known as Onchesmus in antiquity. Saranda, situated near the Greek island of Corfu, has a Mediterranean climate and warm sea. On average, Saranda enjoys around 300 sunny days each year. Due to its position and pleasant climate, Saranda is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Albanian Riviera. The summertime influx of visitors is mostly due to the presence of excellent restaurants, a stunning coastline, and an ideal location to explore other breathtaking places in the vicinity.
